In Memory of Jim Bolger – Standing Up for Safer Roads

Jim Bolger was a devoted husband, father, Papa, and friend. Known for his strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication, Jim spent his life taking care of his family and friends. A skilled craftsman and handyman, he used his talents to help those around him, leaving a lasting mark through his work and generosity. In his retirement, he also spent some time working with special needs children, sharing his patience and care in a small but meaningful way.

On September 29, 2025, Jim’s life was tragically taken while he was pulled safely to the side of the road with his hazard lights on in a 50km/hr zone. What should have been a routine, safe moment ended in an unimaginable loss because of dangerous and careless driving. His death was preventable.

Across Canada, dangerous, reckless, and careless driving remains a leading cause of death and serious injury. Too often, when these actions result in a loss of life, the legal consequences fail to reflect the seriousness of the harm caused.

In response to this tragedy, Jim’s family has been advocating for stronger accountability and safer roads. A federal e-petition, sponsored by Member of Parliament Gaetan Malette, calls on the Government of Canada to review Criminal Code offences related to dangerous and careless driving that cause death or serious bodily harm, strengthen sentencing provisions, increase penalties for repeat offenders, and improve support for victims and their families. The petition is right below.

Jim Bolger’s legacy will live on not only in the hearts of those who loved him, but also in the lives that may one day be protected because of this effort.

Justice for Jim.
